This might just change your view on cats supposedly being ‘fiercely independent’. They just joined dolphins, gorillas and humans as being one of the few species on Earth to…co-parent. Awww.
While cases have been seen around the world, these two rescued strays in Melbourne’s south west have shown that sharing isn’t just caring…it’s incredibly sweet (and smart) parenting.
They were found with kittens that clearly resembled the other mother.
And were happy to suckle and clean the other’s offspring.
And after being found on a building site, they’ve now been reunited as one happy family at Melbourne’s Lost Dogs Home.
It’s thought to be an evolutionary adaptation to improve the chances of their tiny kitten’s survival when food is limited. And sisters are more likely to ‘share the load’. Either way, these multi-coloured kittens are too sweet for words.
